A generalistic look at every problem that has ever faced human civilisation tends to go like this:

1. Ignorance: The status quo seek to ignore or paper over the issue to avoid….
2. Panic: As the problem visibly manifests itself people start to get worried which leads to…
3. Chaos: A state of constant change, with both negatives and positives until someone comes up with some….
4. Solutions: The issue at hand is dealt with in whatever way is deemed appropriate so that humanity can have a dose of….
5. Evolution: Lessons are learned and things are put in place to stop it happening again.

This pattern has been in existence for thousands of years. In terms of climate collapse we are sadly still in stage 1 with a little movement towards stage 2. Governments are in thrall to those responsible who will leverage media to cover up the issues.

You are probably right. There is nothing we can do to stop things getting to stage 3 and what this looks like is anyone’s guess. We are not dealing with a localised war or a continental pandemic but something that will affect the lives of every human on the planet.

But out of the chaos normally comes a solution which then leads to sweeping changes to stop it from happening again. In other words the people of 2123 will probably have the technology and the political will to clean up our mess and build a world where GDP is a curse word and nature has been embraced as a friend, not turned into a resource.
