A lovely article, Melody. There are too few design industry articles on Medium. As a student and teacher for over 20 years whenever I see the words product design I know to think of Dieter Rams rather than whichever blank space built my local taxi app.

Thats not to say that UX and digital are not valid professions; its just from many articles on here you would assume they are the only ones.
