A waterproof tablet and folding phone are still penalised by the OS they run. Don’t get me wrong, Android is no slouch but it is getting a little embarrassing that after 15 years the app parity gap is wider than ever.

That is a lovely large display on the Z Fold; why can’t I draw on it with Procreate or edit photos with something as powerful as Pixelmator? It’s best we dont even mention tablets.

Emulators notwithstanding, gaming has become even worse. I learned today that they’re porting Rolando to Steam but it still lacks an Android port. It came out for the iPhone in 2008. The initial glut of piracy and sideloading of software ruined any chance Android ever had of becoming a platform for premium gaming titles.

Whilst folding devices and the like still lack powerful software to truly unlock their capabilities they will still be nothing but gimmicks.

It sounds like I’m on a fanboy rant but Apple doesn’t escape any ire. They have been short-changing their lowest spending customers for far too long and not spoiling the top spending ones enough. The iPhone is looking a little bit creaky and miserly next to the S23 lineup. It’s not enough to just buff the stats every year and call it a day.
