AI will only replace humans when it becomes cost-effective to do so. As they advance the technology it will continue to burn energy and cash. Without the injections from Microsoft, OpenAI would have gone bust months ago. Google have increased their carbon footprint 50% since they introduced Gemini. By 2030 it is reckoned AI will have the same CO2 footprint as Japan!

Its true that on-device AI might eventually get there and renewables offset some of this but the tech will only get smarter and hungrier.

Humans are comparitively quite cheap to run
