Apple Intelligence deserves some credit. The fact most features can function on-device is incredibly useful if you're on the road a lot. As we question how big LLMs can become and how much energy their data centres consume I think the on-device agents are the way forward, imprisoned with our local data to be useful for us.
Rather than a seperate app, they baked it into the whole OS allowing it more context. And the most important thing is that they gave AI a GUI in the face of competitors text-based 'command line' interfaces.
But, bar the writing tools it is next to useless. Image Playground isn't really meant to be a serious app but it never works properly. Object removal in images is years behind Google's efforts.
