Apple's decision to not pack-in the charger was entirely 100% profit motivated. By making the boxes smaller they say they lower carbon emissions but in reality its cutting down on shipping costs and not supplying a charger to the people upgrading from USB-A charging devices.
In some defence though Apple do make very good products that normally have a longer lifespan than their competitors due to build quality and software updates. This in turn makes the 2nd hand market a good place to turn if, like businessman X, you drop your iPhone off of the Burj Kalifa ;)
In terms of software as long as devs keep up, you can still play games and use apps you brought over a decade ago on the latest iPhone and if you buy older hardware the older app instances live on their servers. A 1st-gen iPad Mini from 10 years ago is still pretyy useable as a tablet in 2022 for kids. Just ask my son, he Facetime's my iPhone 11 from his 10-year-old iPad without issue.
