As I mentioned in your Android story earlier on, something Android suffers from is a lack of premium apps. This is less of a problem on phones because people don’t really use them that way. But when it comes to tablets costing the best part of £1000 that is a different story.
I’ll start by saying I think Samsung tablets have a lot going for them. They’re powerful, include the pen and have Dex mode, an incredibly useful and underrated feature. If you only need routine computing, some photo editing and the ability to emulate any games console from the last 40 years then it’s your device.
But if you want a device for drawing. Or CAD. Or rich document creation. Or music production. Or coding. Or video editing. Or animation. Or all of these things together then the difference between the Tab and the iPad Pro is night and day.
Apps like Ulysses, Pixelmator, Logic, Shapr3D, Scaniverse, Procreate, Pages, Keynote, Resolve or Photomator sadly just do not have Android equivalents that are as good or put together.
This isn’t an indictment of the OS or the device but rather the development environment that has sprang up. Devs make more money with ads in free apps on Android than they do selling them for full price. As nobody wants premium apps riddled with ads they just don’t get released.
I’d love to see Samsung bankroll a few of the above apps just for the Galaxy Store so you could use them on the Fold or the Tab but as it stands if you want to just get stuff done the iPad is your best bet.
