By 2050 the web won’t even exist in its current form. The idea of looking at text on a screen of some sort will be seen as archaic. However I’m not convinced that it will sink further into a hole by requiring a headset and turning into a VR universe. This would ironically be even worse for accessibility.

Instead the web will escape the screen and infiltrate the real world via AR. By 2050 our cities, houses and workplaces will be navigated using an AR HUD likely delivered by a set of glasses. I’d like to think that open standards would continue as the devices pull data from IOT objects and sensors across IRL rather than requiring another closed app market.


This would make waves for accessibility. The added sensors would enable the differently abled to access services and information like never before.
