Capitalism had enabled us to build a society free from scarcity, where the populace was more likely to die from over-consumption than starvation, life expectancy soared, education levels rose and diseases were wiped out.

But as quality of life rose for some people around the globe so did it fall for others. 20th Century western prosperity was built on the exploitation of everywhere else, an economic model of 19th Century imperialism. The USA didn't need to invade other countries when it could just build a Mcdonalds.
