Colour is an incredibly important part of software UX, allowing for memorial recall of where things are just by what shade it happens to be. It makes things easier to learn; just ask Fisher Price.

The monochrome movement, inspired by the NothingOS fork of Android only seems to be taking hold on Android. Whilst Apple do have their branding colours (compare the Mail Icon to the App Store one for example) an iOS Home Screen is a recognisable riot of iconographic colours.

Google however have made all their icons the same mix of 4 different colours which if you don’t have muscle memory can make them difficult to pick out. Google’s default colours are also a little ‘Fisher Price’ in their shades, something an adult probably doesn’t want. In this case it’s easy to understand why people went mono.
