Every 'future of the internet' story I read assumes that the current paradigm of the web as some sort of 'place' we go to waste time or interact with things is the way things should go. This is the first mistake.

We need to go back to viewing the internet as a utility rather than some sort of playground.

The worldwide data exchange network powers some incredible inventions and ideas, from Netflix to Xbox Live to Uber. The future of the internet is in powering other ideas via that exchange of data.

A private website is a useful thing as it allows you to look up job ads or information on a topic. What needs to die is user interaction with the raw internet.
