For me it was the benefits of switching to the Google ecosystem as a whole: I can run my iPad Pro via GApps and at this point Chrome may as well be a virtualised OS as much as a browser. I can log in and access the same pages, links and cloud apps on my Windows office workstation as much as Chrome on my iPad or Windows Laptop.
The big advantage is being able to play nice with 3rd parties. As someone who flits between Mac, Windows, Chrome, Android and iPad OS for work, basing everything around iCloud is a chore because Apple's cloud portal is an afterthought and compared to what you can do in a browser from Google or Microsoft, quite embarassing.
I get Apple don't want to play nice and want to sell more of their own hardware but this isn't of any use if your workplace is Windows-based.
