From a religious point of view many prayers are from the heart rather than the mind. People tend to have a very personal relationship with God, praying for help with difficult to process emotions, mental health states or seasons of hardship which are very different from the sort of practical things you would ask an AI to sort out. People describe religion as a crutch but the world is a damned hard place to deal with and sometimes this is exactly what we need.

From a philosophical point of view I see it more as humanity wanting to escape the shackles of its alleged parent by building a new one rather than growing up. Building an AI to worship isn't solving the problem but building a supercomputer as a tool is.
