From a UX point of view mobile big tech, that is the Apple/Google duopoly is badly in need of some competition. WebOS forced Apple to finally include long-asked for features like proper multitasking and Windows Phone 7 shook up the market enough to get Apple and Google to redesign the aesthetics of their entire operating systems (iOS7 and Android 5 respectively)

But in the decade since all of iOS's best features they stole from Android and vice-versa. They are stuck in a self-made loop where eventually they will homogenise and the only differences will be icon shapes and colour schemes.

Whilst Apple are rumoured to be using VisionOS as the aesthetic basis for iOS18 this is still cannibalisation. We need more upstarts to show them what for.
