Given Apple's dominance of the sector they don't really need to advertise. I can't ever remember seeing any marketing from Tesla and yet those things are everywhere.

With Apple it is much subtler than that. Their pricing infers luxury and yet thanks to monthly contracts they are prevailant at all levels of society. The market thinks that if its cheaper than an iPhone it must naturally be worse than an iPhone.

A famous beer brand that has since become associated with the worst parts of alcohol consumption once marketed itself as 'reassuringly expensive'. There is a natural assumption that if you pay more for something it must be better.

iPhones are great phones. But you can get 90% of the phone for 50% of the price in other places.
