I absolutely loved American War, or at least the backdrop of it all. The book was going so well until the ending which transformed it from a stark warning into the authors' wet dream.

If you like the backdrop of that novel I would suggest reading the background material to the videogame Horizon Zero Dawn which paints a very accurate near-future scenario.
