I always saw a point in future where the watch overtakes the phone as the default communication paradigm simply because its more convenient and has none of the negative aspects.

Apple are kinda halfway there in letting you manage multiple watches from your iPhone and give them to kids or older relatives who you don't want to have or might not use a phone. If they ever cracked an 18-hour battery with 5G on all day it would be there. If Apple ever brought out the Watch app for the iPad I think I'd ditch my phone altogether.

Google might be in a better position as without a large phone screen you rely on the AI assistant and Google is a heck of a lot more useful than Siri.
