I always thought of God as more of a programmer than a creator in the artistic sense. The rules we stare would be the underlying code holding everything together and the self-perpetuating procedural generation algorithms that prevent the need for constant micro-management.
God by their very nature exists outside of space and time and staring at those rules would get you nowhere. It would be like Schrodinger's Cat trying to explain to its offspring that there are things outside when all that kitten can see, hear and experience with their senses is the 6 sides of their box universe.
Science and Religion spent far too much time arguing with each other about things that nobody really thinks about in their day to day life and not enough time working together to solve the problems we face. It doesn't matter what you believe; we're all in this together.
In the immortal words of Albert Einstein:
All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual toward freedom
