I don’t think it was as simple as being kind but had France and the UK not been able to dish out such harsh punishments to Germany and actually helped the country rebuild after the war then there wouldn’t have been any fertile ground for nazism to take root in.

They would have been in better shape economically to weather the 1920’s because their industrial takeoff would have happened sooner due to help rather than hindrance as we saw once Germany reunified and how Japan came to dominate economically after 1946.

Had Wilson been able to really push his way (and he was the strongest player at the table until his illness) the French and British Empires would have been dismantled a lot sooner.
