I imagine Ive was always quite indulgant as a designer but Jobs was the sort of person who would just square-in-the-face tell him that it wouldn't work. This is what made them a dream team: they pressured each other.
Once Jobs sadly passed and Ive was promoted to the head of design it is likely that there weren't many people who questioned his work because he was the golden boy. I don't imagine Ive necessarily being arrogant or forcing his ideas, just that nobody would dare question him.
You only have to look at the post-Jobs rigmerole of the fashion-level Apple Watch, Touchbar etc to see this in action. Ive leaves and Apples' design team bring back card readers, magsafe, thicker laptops (MBP), proper USB ports etc. This doesn't strike me as a coincidence.
