I often find it amusing how the word 'Git' has come to mean something completely different in IT circles.

Here in the UK it is a slang term, often traded between people as an insult ("You grumpy old git.") or used to describe someone with undeserved luck ("The jammy git only went and found a tenner on the floor.")
