I think it always did listen.

The issue was Ive. After Jobs left he got promoted and was seen as the golden boy. It is unlikely anyone questioned his design decisions, from butterfly keys to the lack of ports. This wasn’t necessarily his fault; he was just so high up people were likely scared to say anything.

When Ive left we got ports back and F-keys. This isn’t a coincidence I think.
