I think it was when they couldn’t fly above the trench and then had to drop the exact same torpedoes down the exact same exhaust shaft. The only thing missing was the ghost of Goose telling Mav to use the force!
It’s not a perfect analogy; Maverick is more Han Solo than Skywalker as an archetype. His stealth bomber managed to do the Kessel Run for Ed Harris in less than 12 parsecs 😉
In all seriousness it’s just that one sequence. I mean, if you’re going to homage a movie may as well make it one of the greatest of all time, right? The rest of the movie has about as much in common with Star Wars as it does with Hot Shots Part Deux
