I think it’s more than love but forgiveness.
‘Loving ones-self’ normally implies two different scenarios: either an overabundance of teenage libido 😉 or a selfish arrogance.
A person with any sort of familial responsibility will naturally put the needs of others over themselves. To fight this is uncaring and goes against nature. Even a Pigeon will protect its young!
Christianity taught me that we must do this to everyone we meet, leading a ‘back of the queue’ lifestyle. But this should not come at the expense of yourself.
Showing yourself respect, dignity and forgiveness is often the hardest thing of all; how much do we all beat ourselves up over little things? To love ourselves is to accept our own failings but to try to better them.
The modern world does not agree. This does not also involve putting ourselves first which is a very hollow way of living. We do not consider the feelings of others when we act and assume the world must come to us.
