I think of it like cars or bikes. Sure, I can custom build my own but I might also just want the config I can buy from the showroom and ride away happy.

I will give you every point bar the first one. Windows isn’t really much more customisable than Mac. They days of seeing clean looking Rainmeter setups and regedit configs are long gone.

Microsoft and Apple both have professional software designers who spend millions on R&D figuring out the best position for GUI elements and the best colour for icons. Who am I to argue with them?

(As an aside Android and iOS are in the same position. If you look at the Android launcher/ROM scene most of the hardcore users are just modding their device to make it look more like a Pixel because they crave the uniform appeal it brings)
