I think technology has become a catalyst for culture. Where it was once acceptable for society to take a while to come to terms with new ideas and paradigms, the internet has meant that new cultural norms are now popping up faster than society can absorb them.

This societal rift has been exploited by those with something to gain by division, with those on one fringe decrying those who are slow to accept something new as not wanting it at all and those on the other fringe calling for the rolling back of cultural advances altogether.

These so-called ‘culture wars’ have now dominated political discourse and the media landscape resulting in ever further movement towards the fringes on both sides and the burning of ever more bridges.

Technocrats thought that technology would help bring down low fences but all it did was help build higher walls without first asking that maybe those low fences were there for a purpose to begin with.
