I think you'd lose a lot of custom over this one. There is a public perception as tablets as consumption devices but check Apple's website and you'll see it being marketed as a computer. The first shot you see of the cheapest model is with a keyboard attached.
Apple sell the iPad as their sub-$1000 computing option where the average user is willing to give up a level of autonomy for a more controlled experience. The £$329 model is arguably Apple's most competitive product, a much better option than competing Chrome or Windows devices.
