But 3rd party companies with one source of income cannot be trusted with important information. You and I have two very real options: either entrust everything to a trillion dollar platform holder or host our own data in Obsidian or Typograph.

Evernote would be absolutely brilliant if it just used iCloud or Google drive as its storage medium. This would cut down on their hosting costs (which they could pass on to the customer) and if they fold your data is still on your space and not theirs.
