I used to work for McDonald’s. Want to know a few things?
The McFlurry used to be a lot better. The plastic spoons were designed to fit on a rotating square bit that blitzed the ice cream and topping together. These days you get the topping just dropped on top. Not the same.
The mix used for milkshakes and ice cream is virtually identical except the shake mix has less sugar inside.
My friend’s undergrad Molecular Biology class did some tests on McDonald’s milkshakes and discovered the base ingredients are the same as those found in instant mashed potato.
The machines are manufactured by local companies rather than being imported. In fact McDonald’s doesn’t import much at all as a retailer to stores outside America. For example here in the UK the stores get their fries supplied by McCain Frozen Foods who supply the exact same fries you can buy from the supermarket.
As staff members we were allowed to make out own desserts as part of our meal allowance. This led to using double the regular mix customers would get as well as mixing in unholy amounts of hot fudge sauce and chocolate syrup into a McFlurry.
