I was listening to what you and John said on your most recent podcast episode (congratulations on becoming a father!) and I've been having similar thoughts for a while.

I don't think Apple ever intended to build a car at all but rather Project Titan was built from the start as a data gathering exercise to inform the development of many other projects, from the LiDAR sensor in Pro Apple products to recent Maps features.
