I wonder how much of that cost is just flashy parts rather than internal tech.
LiDAR sensors and FaceID scanners have been in iPhones for years now so must be cheap to source.
The internal gubbins boils down to an iPad Pro. Those M2 boards can’t be a huge cost given the volume they are sold in.
The $300 Meta Quest 2 is capable of some pretty impressive hand tracking given its relatively ‘basic’ technology. It can even scan your desk into the VR environment giving you a tactile surface to play on. And whilst the quality of the feed isn’t brilliant it does do floating windows in a passthrough setting.
The PSVR2 lacks any internal independent chips but does have the eye tracking down at $500.
So, if it wasn’t for that external OLED display and the large curved glass front, would the Vision Pro even cost that much?
