I would strongly argue that horror is one genre where the unique interactive creative opportunities of video games long surpassed the passive ones of movies.

It is much easier to build tension in an audience member when they themselves are the object of it. Silent Hill, Resident Evil 7, Alien: Isolation, Dead Space: all incredible pieces of interactive entertainment and all a heck of a lot of a lot scarier and more atmospheric than any horror movie released in the last 20 years.
