I would strongly argue that its only piracy if you are depriving the creators a sale. If that game cannot be brought anywhere that recompenses the original developers then you haven’t stolen anything. Abandonware is fair game IMO.

Copyright law is also massively outdated in the world of easily copied software. Companies should get a decade of exclusive rights to their creation before the title (not the IP) becomes public domain and fans can pull it apart, mod it and preserve it.

This would actually be a creative boon. It would force companies to constantly be developing and creating new games instead of reselling the same game over and over which is what gamers have been telling developers for years now. Build new games instead of ‘remastering’ old ones!
