I would thoroughly recommend American War by Omar El Akkad that tells of a second american civil war in 2070. Political upheaval and environmental instability has led to the outlawing of fossil fuels which has in turn led to the hotter southern states suceeding from the union due to percieved oppression from the north.
From the point of view of her newphew we learn the story of Southerner Sarah Chestnut, who goes from child to refugee to brainwashed soldier as the plot moves on. Interspersed are newspaper cuttings telling the story of major political events of the era.
