I'd be a hypocrite it I didn't admit to using ad blockers, largely to stem the tide of video adverts on text-based webpages. I came to read, not watch. I'm ok with in-line static ads that function like the print ads of old and am happy to unblock sites that use them.

However blocking ads on YouTube is effectively deriving the creators you watch of income. Not every streamer has lucrative sponsorships and must rely on adsense to make anything back. Ethically this is up there with pirating software you can still buy from the developers. (Abandonware is a different scenario) I see no moral grounds for doing it given YouTube ads tend to be more towards the end of TV commercials than 'You're our 10,000th visitor!'

I would posit that the reason people use adblock on YouTube is because they're watching on their phones. On a TV set ads on YouTube are not a problem. You've likely sat down to watch some long-form content and the odd commercial isn't any different to linear broadcasting.

On a phone you're likely in another place with limited time, perhaps a form of transport or a work break. In this scenario perhaps watching videos is poor use of time and reading an article would be a better choice.
