I’d be amazed if we don’t get an ‘AFC Richmond’ spinoff at some point. The show is too valuable to Apple to just slip by, even if Shrinking has picked up some of the slack a little bit this year. Had it have been a BBC show we would have had three seasons of six episodes each and that would have been it; American networks though don’t know when to stop.
The 3rd season seemed a big of a slog through the first few episodes but damn if Sunflower wasn’t up there with ‘Long, Long Time’ as one of the best standalone TV episodes of all time and then from there, for me at least the series just kept getting better and returned to the series we all knew.
I loved the finale. It needs about 10 watches to pick up every callback and reference to the show at large, from Jamie’s I, COG hat to quotes from the original NBC ads.
I do wonder though if a lot of the jokes go over the heads of an American audience from a cultural perspective. The third season morphed into a classic British sitcom and could at times have been written by the likes of David Croft or John Sullivan.
