I’d like to think Godot has a future here. I’m only going on what I have played but recent release Cassette Beasts is not only a great game but built with the open source engine too. I only assume enterprising hobbyists will add to its capabilities as time goes on and create a thriving community of developers free from the tyranny of licensing fees.
