Both sides never stop to wonder if they're both correct.

A creator by definition exists outside of creation; their existence or lack thereof cannot be proven either way by observing the material universe.

We forget though that processes like evolution and the big bang were suggested by theist scientists in the 19th century as the methodology of the creator. Indeed they were driven by a curiousity of peeling back the veil.

I would recommend the published writings of Prof. Simon Conway Morris on the subject but it is entirely plausible that a process like evolution was put in place by the creator as a way to ensure life could self-adapt to chaotic changes in its habitat without the need of micromanagement like a programmer putting in procedural generation.
