If I was being pessimistic I would say that all the experiment proved is that life on earth (and potentially elsewhere) is just made up of the same elements as the body they are born on; despite all our gains we still have yet to simulate the actual formation of a simple life form in a lab environment.

I'm not saying this discludes the idea or that it means that it can never happen but the closest we have come to creating actual life is in machines rather than biology and might therefore have already answered our own question.
