If I've learned one thing in all my years interested in futurism is it normally takes 30 years (give or take) for things to actually play out or have a use. I remember reading an article in 1995 about the PAN or Personal Area Network that a person would have with all the devices they own. I look at my iPhone, Watch and Airpods and see how this came to fruition.

The internet as we know it will cease to exist as it becomes less a 'place' and more of a utility powering apps and services. Young people don't frequent forums or Facebook but rather interface through DMs, Snapchat and Group Chats. If the regular internet becomes a social wasteland, what use is a VR version of it? Web3 is just Web1 with a built-in crypto ponzi scheme.

AR will be the next development as we use digital interfaces to add value to the real world. This is where the most cutting edge metaverse work will go as layer on top of what is already there instead of building a replacement. This will add to ambient computing
