If the user is only looking for a $300-600 computer then the iPad will do them well (and indeed sits at this price point in Apples' lineup for a reason) but as we approach $1000 the lines start to blur.
The iPad Pro is really more of a desktop companion device for the user who must have everything rather than a workhorse because 9 times out of 10 any user would be better off with an M1 Macbook Air, especially as you can grab one for as little as $700 around Black Friday.
For the price of an iPad Pro and Keyboard you could buy an M1 MBA and an iPad Mini which gives you the best of both worlds.
