If they were losing money paying royalties to writers then they should have just come out and said as much and told them plainly that if they didn’t lower their payout rates then the company would go bust and they’d lose their platform.

I’m not saying this would have been any better but at least they would be being honest with the writers, of which Medium has nothing without.
