If you’re on a campsite what your 2mm of tent canvas is protecting you from is the sounds of other people at which point you may as well be back in that hotel with a hot shower and flushing toilet.

Aren’t we meant to go back to nature to escape other people and the buzz of the city, not bring it with us?

Wild camping i think is the only way to do it, yourself and maybe a partner roughing it in a secluded spot so you can carry on your journey the next day or rise to see the sun.

If the comfort of other travellers is what you seek then a good youth hostel is a happy medium. Staying in a shared dorm is a lot cheaper than a hotel. I’ve had many nights up late sharing stories with other hikers from across the continent (I live in Europe) and making new friends and at the end of it I still have a warm bed and a hot shower.

Mankind has spent thousands of years coming up with ever more innovative ways to keep nature on the outside and I am happy to bask in the glory of our ancestors.
