Im in my early forties and pretty much everyone I know plays videogames to some extent.
These days I am loath to spend money on digital purchases because of the reduced level of consumer rights. I like to play older games on emulators but I do ethically, only playing titles I ever exchanged money for.
I use them to extract titles locked to older platforms, as its easier to play on my iPhone than carry around a PSP (or whatever). I have since learned that all my old digital purchases are null and void for such an endeavor because I only ever bought a licence and not an actual product.
We are in a silly situation where having said software burned to a piece of plastic gives me ownership rights but a download does not. https://carlst-james.medium.com/why-does-a-plastic-disk-give-us-more-consumer-rights-437928e62603
Now unless something is on a deep sale, I won't bother. I don't want to deprive developers of revenue at al and I'm not going to pirate them. But asking consumers to pay the same price for a software licence with no consumer rights vs a plastic disk with ownership is ridiculous.
