In many ways the iPhone started out as an extended arm of the Mac, allowing you access to address book, photos and media without needing the mothership.

I foresee a future where the watch supplants the iPhone as the communication paradigm. It has all the core communication benefits but without any ads, tracking or distracting games and social media. Most things can be done with Siri like setting calendar and reminders.
