In the defence column I will point out that everything bar the overheating and data transfer can be solved by being sensible and buying a phone case. Even if I have car insurance I don’t go driving around like a maniac.

The overheating could be being caused by rogue processes in the RAM which the user cannot clear themselves like they can on Android. Google have a long history of battery drain bugs based on this same issue that they never bothered to patch. Every pre-Pixel 6 device I owned developed this fault (Nexus One, Nexus 5, Pixel 1, Pixel 4) and it was never fixed.

Apple using Instagram as an example isn’t too far from the truth. Meta wouldn’t have had any time to test the app on the new processor and Zuckerberg isn’t likely to tell people to not use the app as it will cost him money.

The data transfer debacle is something that should have come up in QA testing prior to launch. They have no excuse on that one.
