In the meatspace of physical product design the limitations of materials coupled with accessibility seek to narrow and focus creativity. Software doesn't have these limitations. A digital display is an infinite canvas of potential.

But maybe it should. Too many apps (for example) pay little attention to the device they live on. How many interactions are out of reach of thumbs? Two hands cannot be taken for granted when you have shopping/small children/transport railings/a burrito to hold in the other and not everyone has two to begin with.

My point is that it is time for software product designers to think about ergonomics as much as aesthetics. This research requires physical data to complete but it should also seek to spur on creativity and not limit it. It would also put C&P design to rest.
