iOS7 was largely a knee-jerk reaction to Windows Phone 7 making iOS and Android look incredibly dated almost overnight.
I’d quite like to sit down with Apple’s software design team and ask them why, when customers moved on to larger displays did they just stretch the OS and call it a day?
I love iOS and use it every day. But there is tremendous room for improvement in its ergonomics, particularly how far too many interactions are out of reach of a thumb in portrait. This is an accessibility issue of the highest order: spare hands are often holding other things and some people don’t have one at all.
If Apple want room for actual innovation in iOS they make it so no user interactions take place outside the bottom third of the phone.
