It always seemed like one of Apple's most obvious ploys for customer retention was making their devices last longer than their peers thereby keeping the customer on the rope for longer.

I have 5-year-old iPhones and 10-year-old Macs in my house (I use said Mac on a daily basis) and bar the odd battery replacement or RAM upgrade they are all as good as they day I bought them. I can even redownload apps I bought in 2008.

How dare they provide such good value for money! I want my PC to need a complete rebuild every 3 years and I want my Android phone to lose OS updates after 3 years.
