It is quite feasible that advances in rapid prototyping will mean we don't need to ship parts across the globe when a local garage can download the schematics for your car and print one in-situ. Less reliance on overseas shipping will mean we can slow down the supply chain for the things we do need to import.

There are companies looking at a return to old fashioned wind power. The British Empire for all its faults managed to build a military superpower and globalised supply chain on the back of sailcloth and the wind.
